Teams 2011

TEAM REPORT 2011

Inter Club Show jumping Competition 13th November at Eaglesfield

by Jackie Collins
We sent a team of four members to the above competition, the team consisted of two novice horses jumping 2’6 and to open horses jumping 3’.

The team members were Polly Lambert, Sarah Barnes, Louise Morrison and junior member Katie Hickling.
We were drawn 9th to jump out of 34 teams!!! So it was a 7am start for both Polly and Sarah!! Polly was our 1st member to jump who jumped a lovely clear followed straight away by Sarah who also jumped a lovely clear.

The course was then raised for the open horses of which Louise was the 1st of our open horses to jump who on the 20yr old Jesters Quest jumped a superb clear round followed by Katie who also produced a lovely clear.

We then had to nominate one of our open horses to jump off, of which we choose Katie and the speedy Dom Perignom.  Twelve contested the jump off of which Katie was the 5th to jump and what a superb jump off it was!! Katie sped round taking every possible quick route which resulted in a very quick time and clear!! Only two bettered Katie’s time and we finished in a very creditable 3rd!!

We also took part in a team scurry competition in which we finished with 8 faults, unfortunately due to the time and a long drive home we didn’t wait for the results.  Many teams were finishing on higher scores!! I did email the organisers to see if we had been placed but sadly nobody got back to me.

I would like to say a big thank you to all that took part and came to Eaglesfield and made it such a successful day!!

Royal International Hickstead 31st July

by Jackie Collins
We were able to send two teams this year of which four were new members!! The teams were Sally Randles, Claire Penfold, Alex Leslie, Louise Morrison, Jo Carr and Nicola Wilson.

This year there were 102 teams!!!!

For those that don’t know the format for this competition, it is 3 rounds of different heights with the 1st rider jumping 85 cm the 2nd rider jumping 95cm and the 3rd jumping 1.05!

The first round started at 8 am the course this year caused a few problems early on due to the ground being very slippery with several horses and riders ending up on the floor (thankfully none of ours) due to this we took it steady and incurred time penalties and the odd pole.

Everybody jumped extremely well and hopefully everyone got their Hickstead Photo’s!! And had time for plenty of shopping!!

A big thank you to everyone for making it a very enjoyable day.

Novice Show Jumping Qualifier Felbridge 30th July

by Jackie Collins
We were able this year to send a team of four and one individual; the team were Kay Kitson, Sian Mann, Maria Elliott and Jo Carr and our individual Helen Thomas.

If you have never been to Felbridge Show Ground they have a lovely all weather arena with a pond as a centre piece!! The arena is quite opposing and this year there were plenty of flowers and fluffy things at every fence!!

It turned out to be a very hot day with the competition starting an hour late. The first round caused us a few problems Kay had an unlucky 4 faults and Sian, Maria and Helen fell victims of the fluffies with Jo going clear.

The fences went up for the second round, everybody rallied round and got behind each other and some excellent rounds were jumped giving much confidence!!

A big thank you to the team and the excellent team spirit!! And also thank you to Sophie Saunders for being helper because without these we are not able to enter teams.

AREA HORSE TRIALS QUALIFIER 10TH JULY TEAM REPORT

by Christine Patrick
This year we sent a senior team of Claire Penfold on Harvey's Crusader, Sian Mann on Dolfyn Lyn and Kay Kitson on Chapelhouse Right Said Fred as well as a junior individual, Katie Hickling on Dom Perignon.

Katie had a really good day doing a good dressage test, clear show jumping and cross country finishing just outside the rosettes with a very creditable 7th place. The cross country at Borde Hill is always well up to height and Katie was very pleased with her horse who is a fairly new ride and with lots to look forward to in the future.

In the senior team competition we originally had a team of four but Debbie Hill's horse unfortunately was bitten by an adder the week before but we are happy to report he is now absolutely fine.

Claire and Kay both had good dressage tests but with faults in the show jumping before going clear cross country so whilst not being placed were very pleased and both said how much they had enjoyed the day. Sian unfortunately had trouble in the show jumping but there is always another day and I am sure she will represent the club in the future.

I would especially like to thank Ann Pemberton who gave up her Sunday to jump judge with me all day with the last horse not going cross country until 6.15pm! No club can compete at Area level without sending helpers so if anyone would like to help and put their names forward to help at events next year it would be very much appreciated.

I would like to thank the team members and hope they had a good days competition.

BRC Winter Dressage Qualifier

by Ann Pemberton
The club sent a team of four to the BRC Winter Dressage Qualifier held at Ardingy on 15th January. Lynne Pullman on Ninfield Dick Whittington and Maria Elliott on Morpheous rode Preim 18. Lynne’s boy was a little overawed by the size of the working in area, the whole of the Abergavenney Building, and was quite relieved to go into the outside arena where he behaved perfectly. Maria’s Murphy showed how he has grown up this last year and did a good test considering he has never been to such a grown up event before. Christine Patrick on Superstitious and Amanda Angear on Storm rode Novice 24. They both did amazingly well considering they only found out 10 mins before their test they had learnt the wrong one! This was entirely my fault as I had not realised there was a new Novice 24 brought out last year and we were using the old one so my apologies again for this mistake.Considering the weather of late and the difficulties of exercising horses let alone practising tests we were very pleased with the team performance, not in the places this time but roll on the summer we will have further opportunity to perhaps field two team at the summer qualifier.

Please check your flu certificates.
Look at the update below, and let Ann know if you would like to be a part of the summer dressage teams.
